Exploring Historic Textile Series

  • Whittier Birthplace 305 Whittier Road Haverhill United States (map)

This program series is sponsored by the Haverhill Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council! This summer we’ll be Exploring Historic Textiles.

All ages are welcome to join us for this historic textile production workshop. Attendees will get the chance to try weaving on a simple loom (make a pot holder or pocket to take home!), to watch skilled craftswomen practice historic textile production methods (spinning wheel demo confirmed! possibly more to come!), and have the option of visiting the textile exhibit on the second floor of the Whittier Homestead.

This program will be held primarily in the Gus Reusch Welcome Center at the Whittier Birthplace, but for those interested, there is an optional visit to the textile exhibit on the second floor of the Whittier Homestead. Thanks to the support of the Haverhill Cultural Council there is no admission fee to attend.

Accessibility: While the Welcome Center is on ground level and has a ramp or single step up for entry, accessing the second floor of the c.1688 Whittier Homestead involves climbing a steep and narrow staircase.
